Do We Really Need Boruto?

đź“·

As far as I’m concerned, I really didn’t think Boruto was necessary. In fact, I’m quite sure that the majority of people still watching this show are mainly doing so just to see what their old favorite characters are up to. I would’ve been perfectly fine with another show about Naruto as an adult, perhaps, but Boruto? Not so much.

Here’s a couple reasons why:

The protagonist: Boruto Uzumaki himself, the new protagonist, is probably my least favorite character in the show.

After recently graduating the academy he:

Possesses three change in chakra natures (Until half of the Fourth Great Shinobi War was over, Naruto only had one)“Subconsciously” added Wind and Lightning Release chakra natures to his Rasengan (Please note: after trying extremely hard, both Minato and Kakashi failed at this- Naruto had to train forever just to add Wind Style to his Rasengan) (Olisa Efobi’s comment explains this spot-on)Got a perfect score on the Academy test without even trying (I was perfectly happy with Minato holding the highest academy score record- are you seriously trying to tell me that Boruto is smarter than him?)Cheated during the Chunin Exams in order to passWas doing better taijutsu than all 5 Kage combined, in doing so also “defeating” Momoshiki Otsutsuki (I really think Naruto and Sasuke should’ve just done that)Has his own unique dojutsu, even getting some sort of “Otsutsuki Curse Mark”, which is pretty much guaranteed to be extremely overpowered

What’s worse? Boruto doesn’t deserve any of it. I mean, he’s barely had to try to accomplish anything. While Sasuke had to witness his entire clan get murdered just to awaken the basic Sharingan, Boruto’s gotten his own possibly even more overpowered dojutsu all the while cursing his dad for saving the world.

Other Characters:

The characters of the new era are just completely overpowered. How many people hate Boruto? (No spoilers)– I found that Alex Anuna’s answer to this explains it extremely well

I mean, thinking about it, both Naruto and Sasuke took days just to be able to walk on trees, even with Sasuke being a recognized member of the prodigy club.

The Plot:

In the Naruto Chunin Exams, you could feel the aura of danger. In Boruto, not so much.

By the point that Boruto is currently at, Naruto had:

The Land of the Waves Arc– this arc had truly amazing fights and emotion. Seeing Kakashi against Zabuza with the introduction of the sharingan was just awesome to watch. The original Chunin Exams. Not to say the Boruto one was bad, but Naruto’s Chunin Exams had an entirely different level of danger and even gave us the Rock Lee vs. Gaara fight, which to this day is still one of the best in the entire show.Naruto vs. Neji– this fight was pretty great and gave us further detail on Neji’s background. Gentle fist was probably one of my favorite things to watch in the show. There were a lot of other Chunin Exams battles which were amazing. Seeing Gaara against those Amegakure shinobi was definitely bone-chilling, and Neji’s murderous intent against Hinata (along with her willpower) was exciting to watch as well. The destruction of the Hidden Leaf Village– Orochimaru vs. The Third Hokage. However, I understand completely well that with Naruto and Sasuke there, the destruction of the Leaf Village is no longer possible.

I suppose that the Naruto and Sasuke vs. Momoshiki fight was an absolutely magnificent fight, but I seriously think it could’ve done better if Boruto himself just wasn’t there. Because if you’ve noticed, it was that great because of Naruto and Sasuke themselves. Sadly, that’s likely to be the last time we see the two friends fight together.

Others:

Well, one thing that’s just hard to accept for a lot of Naruto fans is the fact that he’s going to be surpassed. Because, after so many of us have spent our past 15 years watching him go through trials and harship one after another, and growing from a 12 year-old knucklehead into the Hokage, it’s kind of hard for us to cope with the fact that his completely unrelatable brat of a son, who doesn’t even have to try, is going to steal his glory away from him. It’s also highly likely that Sasuke won’t make it to the end of the series, which is a bit difficult to watch- because, for once, the plot armor is against our favorite protagonists (there’s just no other possible way that they can die). From the way it’s going, I sincerely doubt that Boruto’s villains will ever match the likes of Madara or the Akatsuki (Shin’s Akatsuki? I’m sorry- are you serious?). On terms of personality, I’ve found that none of the Otsutsuki have been even nearly as enjoyable to watch- and although they’re definitely strong, in a way, they’re not quite as intimidating as those characters either. I mean, we knew that when someone came into contact with the Akatsuki that they were done (as long as they weren’t our protagonists with all their plot armor) Do you remember Pain’s Invasion with Kakashi and Jiraiya’s death? The amount of pure emotionand terror those moments held was unexplainable. When we saw Madara running to fight the entire Allied Shinobi Forces, we could see each of them trembling and praying for their lives. And by the point that Boruto is currently at, Naruto also had Orochimaru, who at one point was just about the scariest person in the show. I mean, seeing Kakashi shaking with fear in front of him, the very person who had defeated Zabuza (Both he and Haku were also amazing), that just had a whole different effect. So far, none of Boruto’s antagonists have really gotten to us that much.I also don’t personally like the way the characters from the original Naruto are depicted, with Naruto and Sasuke being a bit weaker, along with quite a few othersAnd yes, Naruto was famous for it’s fillers, but if it it’s possible, I find that many of Boruto’s are even less engaging. I mean, most of Naruto’s fillers had some significance to their showing and were even fun to watch, but I’m afraid that I can’t exactly say the same for the next generation. Some examples of Boruto fillers: “Super Cho-Cho Kiss Mode!” and “Love and Potato Chips!”I understand the episodes are trying to lighten the mood, but… what?

Of course, a lot of you will probably have differing opinions, but since the question was more centered around my thoughts about Boruto, that’s the way I answered it.
